The Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry
The Open Studios is located within the Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry (PSII), an independent not-for-profit high school with approximately 110 students in grades 9-12. During the school day The Open Studios function as Music Rooms, Podcasting Studio, Stage, Art Studio, Textiles, Ceramics and more. PSII learners create, connect and collaborate developing inquiries and learning new skills with the expert guidance of PSII teachers and community mentors.
In 2025 The Open Studios got our start with at $20,000 Cultural Infrastructure Grant from the City of Victoria! We used the funds to convert the PSII Open Studios into the creative arts hub it is now by soundproofing our music studios, upgrading our stage, and by modifying our school into a mixed-use community space!
Under the direction of improviser and storyteller Dave Morris, The Paper Street Theatre co. creates improvisation that feels like theatre. By studying great playwrights, and theatrical styles then performing them with no script, our ensemble sets out to change what people often perceive improvisation to be. Some of what we do may be comedy, but first it will be theatre.
Paper Street Theatre has been featured at Festivals around the world, including Vancouver, London, Romania, Amsterdam, and more. They have won multiple awards for their innovative style of improvisation.
Improv Classes are taught at The Open Studios on Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays!
Guitars Plus has leaned away from being a “music store” with a wide array of instruments and we have instead focused on being a great guitar shop. We specialize in all things guitar with new, used, vintage and rare instruments being bought and sold every day. We have a wide range of accessories like pedals, caps, amps, cables and more. We also offer repairs and modifications and have one of the best parts inventory on Vancouver Island. Come down to Guitars Plus for all things guitar
Trevor Woodland. Trevor has been building custom guitars under the Vigilant brand for over 10 years with 200+ instruments made. He currently owns and operates Guitars plus and acts as the head repair tech.
Trevor has decades of experience building and fixing guitars and possesses a holistic knowledge of how to construct, assemble and set up guitars. With a BA in history and certificates in education, Trevor makes for happy to work with all ages and skill levels.
Trevor teaches guitar maintenance workshops at The Open Studios and is a mentor to PSII learners!
Victoria Arts Promotion and Preservation Society:
Sound-Tech Mentorship Program
“The Victoria Arts Promotion and Presentation Society (VAPPS) with support from the City of Victoria’s Music Strategy Fund, is launching a new initiative aimed at training new sound technicians and increasing sound literacy in our arts community.
The goal is to incorporate mentorship and training opportunities into existing community events. A series of micro-grants will be provided to compensate experienced technicians for their time, while also reducing the overall cost for event presenters who host training opportunities.”
